Buying presents for children with birthdays in January

Firstly Happy New Year – I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and that Santa visited the children in your family.

At this time of year, I always try to give some suggestions about what presents to buy for kids who have birthdays in January and early February.

I’m sure lots of households are now full of toys and bursting at the seams, so when I buy birthday presents at this time of year I always try to steer away from toys.

So here are my top suggestions!

Bedroom accessories are always a good shout, so a new wall canvas would look amazing in any kid’s bedroom. I particularly like the LED canvases as these not only brighten up a bedroom but can act as a nightlight for children too. Older children will love the super cool Keep Out Canvas, whereas younger children will simply fall in love with the “Love You” canvas. If you know of a little someone with a space themed bedroom, why not choose the Rocket LED canvas or for a fairy themed bedroom the Fairy Blossom canvas will go down a storm.

Another fantastic bedroom accessory and fairly new to the UK market is the Sleepy Light – a stunning lamp that doubles up as a nightlight. These again are gorgeous gifts that will brighten up any kid’s bedroom. For girls there are mermaids, unicorns and fairies and for boys the tractor, rocket and robot seem to appeal. If a little person has a dinosaur themed bedroom then you simply can’t go wrong with the T-rex or dragonasaurus sleepy light. And for very young children please check out the Cloud B cuddle buddy nightlight range.

Moving on from bedroom accessories to my next recommendation – outdoor accessories! These make great presents for children with January birthdays. They will inevitably need to use an umbrella, so choose ones in funky designs. My favourites at the moment are the colour changing umbrellas – these amazing umbrellas change colour in the rain and make an ideal present for kids of any age.

My next suggestion is a hooded beach towel, which is another wonderful accessory for kids. The Zoocchini range has many super cool designs for babies right up to kids age 6. Let them be King of the Jungle with Leo the Lion, or a cheeky monkey with Max!

My last suggestion in terms of accessories comes under the umbrella of school stuff – a new lunch bag, drinks bottle, swim bag or school back pack are all fabulous presents for kids with birthdays at this time of year. Look out for super cool designs – pirate, dinosaur, fairy and princess themes always go down well. I’d also recommend kids stationery too. My favourite designer at the moment is Rachel Ellen – well worth a look.

On a final note:

Something else to consider is that children with December and January birthdays get all their presents within the space of a few days or weeks, so when summer comes they don’t have many outdoor toys. So if you do want to buy a toy, can I suggest choosing gifts for the summer, such as a super soaker, beach toy, garden toy or perhaps a kite. Gardening and growing kits are well worth mentioning here too!
